Hey. I’m Austin.
I started Horror Nerd because I’ve spent most of my life buying horror movies faster than I can watch them, talking about boutique Blu-ray releases (and slipcovers) like they’re rare vinyl, and losing sleep over which version of The Mutilator has the best scan of the gore scene. If that sounds like you—welcome home.
This isn’t a site for ranking the “Top 10 Scariest Horror Movies on Netflix Right Now.” It’s a site for people who’ve bought the same movie three times because each release had different cover art. It’s for those of us who love the grime, the trash, the unexpected emotional gut-punch hiding inside a VHS tape that looks like it was designed by a possessed intern in 1989.
I’ve got a master’s degree in literature, but don’t worry—I won’t use words like “liminal” unless it’s absolutely necessary. That background mostly means I overthink horror in a way that’s hopefully entertaining. I care about this stuff. Not in an academic, elbow-patch way, but in a late-night, half-asleep, “should I finally watch that Severin release of Wax Mask again?”* kind of way.
Horror Nerd is built around the collector’s mindset, the deep cuts, the boutique releases, the “wait… why did I buy this?” moments.
Here you’ll find:
- New to the Wall – Fresh releases, shiny slips, and everything boutique collectors can’t resist. Unboxing and diving into the latest boutique label releases — because half the fun is what’s inside.
- Shelf Rot – Because sales are easy. Watching everything I bought? Not so much. Finally facing the boutique label backlog one dusty slipcover at a time. Old purchases, first watches, and long-overdue revisits all get their day.
- Super Shudder – Random double features, streaming chaos, and the occasional regret. A descent into Shudder’s depths. One pre-2000 movie, one post-2000, and one TV episode. It’s like a film festival, but with fewer snacks and more poor decisions.
- Slip Wars – Unhinged horror drafts where I battle opponents that may or may not exist. It’s me, a cursed bracket, and way too many opinions. Whether I’m facing off against my sleep-deprived self, a haunted slipcover, or the concept of “good taste,” expect absurd horror drafts and questionable choices.
- Creep Shelf – That box set you swore you’d watch? Yeah, it’s still waiting. Deep dives into the boutique box sets that have been lurking on my shelf, silently judging me. One disc at a time, I’m facing the madness.
- Foggy Book Club – Pages turn, shadows linger. A horror book club for those who like their reads unsettling and their nights sleepless. Whether it’s vintage paperbacks, modern nightmares, or spooky nonfiction — we read, we overthink, we probably sleep with the lights on.
- …and other ongoing brainworms from the horror-loving side of my brain.
If you’ve ever fixed the LED eyes on your Cathy’s Curse box set, this site is for you. If you’ve ever said “I’m probably never going to watch this, but I need it on the shelf,” you’re in the right place.
We’re all horror nerds here.
